Thanks to artist Vu Thuy Mai, who took the time to organize the Silk Painting Workshop at VAC Hanoi. Every participant had the chance to learn more about the history of silk paintings, the uniqueness of Vietnamese silk paintings, and how the practices differ among artists who work with this medium. The art of silk is as subtle as the fabric itself. "It's interesting how other forms of paintings are named after the materials used, such as oil/acrylic/lacquer, whereas with silk painting, people refer to it using the name of the fabric itself," Mai shared. Additionally, apart from learning about the primary techniques, the process, and the basic steps to make a silk painting, participants also experienced the therapeutic aspect of it. The fact that everyone focused intensely for long hours, forgetting about everything else and simply enjoying themselves, brought a joyful and peaceful atmosphere.
