Nguyen Duy Anh

Nguyễn Duy Anh (b. 1997) is a queer moving image artist based in Hanoi. He graduated with a degree in Film Direction through a four-year exchange programme between the Hanoi Academy of Theatre & Cinema in Vietnam and INSAS in Belgium. Working across fictional films, documentaries, video installations, and music videos as a director, screenwriter, producer, editor, and organiser, his practice explores and questions how larger systems shape—and often constrain—the expressive freedom of individuals within contemporary social contexts.

His works move fluidly between documentary and fiction, intimacy and performance, examining the ways personal desires, identities, and relationships are negotiated within broader social structures. Duy Anh's films and installations have been presented at venues and festivals including the Singapore International Film Festival, documenta fifteen, Kunsthalle TRAFO, daadgalerie, and KF Asian Culture House Museum. In 2023, Duy Anh won a Prince Claus Seed Award for his contribution in the first five years as an artist. His film “A Cleaning Service” was awarded Best Short at Aternativa Film Festival 2024.
