Panel Talk: "Tending and Connecting: Between the Local and the Global"
1 April, 2026
Talk
VAC Hanoi

As part of VAC's 3rd anniversary program, this panel brings together curator Joséphine May Bailey, curator Yang Zi, and journalist and independent expert Truong Uyen L moderated by VAC Director Of Global Relations, Hedvig Liestøl.
Following the conversation at 2025 West Bund Shanghai, which reflected on identity, heritage, and diaspora, this discussion shifts focus: from artists to nstitutional perspectives, and from what an art scene is to how it grows and circulates on its own terms.
The panel considers what genuine international visibility might mean for a contemporary art scene: what it requires, what it risks, and where the most productive tensions lie between local rootedness and global reach.
Bringing together perspectives across curatorial practice, research, and cultural infrastructure, the conversation invites a candid reflection on the conditions shaping Vietnamese contemporary art today.
