Vietnam Art Collection (VAC) is delighted to present '𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘢̂𝘯 - 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘸𝘰 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘦 . .', the Open Studio of Summer 2026 Artists-in-Residence Nguyễn Vân-Nhi and Nguyễn Duy Anh.

Developed through their combined residency project, '𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘢̂𝘯 - 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘸𝘰 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘦 . .', both artists contribute works to create a larger installation that delves into the topics of family and memory, specifically within regards to conceptual identity through societal pressure. Through their individual processes, each artist explores notions relating to family through assemblage, collage, and AI manipulation to create works that unite together. In the space, visitors are encouraged to engage directly with the works to engage with the very essence of human identity.

During the Open Studio Reception, artist Kiều-Anh Nguyễn serves ice cream conceived in response to the duo’s work. The evening will also feature a special presentation by Hoa Quỳnh Cinema, an intimate screening project co-founded by Nguyễn Duy Anh. For the occasion, Hoa Quỳnh Cinema presents 'Quỳnh Hương Liệu' – an experience of seeing, listening, and smelling, created in collaboration between Nguyễn Duy Anh and Kiều-Anh Nguyễn.

About the Artists-in-Residence:

Nguyễn Vân-Nhi is an artist working across photography, assemblage, and collages based in Hanoi. Her practice explores how contemporary life is shaped by memory and unresolved histories. Returning to questions of personal, familial, and collective remembrance, she examines themes of identity, intimacy, motherhood, and the tensions between cultural tradition and modern life through a distinctly Vietnamese lens. Through staged domestic scenes and collages assembled from stock imagery alongside her own photographs, she creates layered, sculptural images that move between careful construction and improvisation.

Nguyễn Duy Anh is a queer moving image artist based in Hanoi. Working across fictional films, documentaries, video installations, and music videos as a director, screenwriter, producer, editor, and organiser, his practice explores and questions how larger systems shape, and often constrain, the expressive freedom of individuals within contemporary social contexts. Since May 2022, Duy Anh joined Ba-bau Collective and had a long-time residency at Ba-bau.air, where he co-founded Hoa Quynh Cinema, an intimate cinema screening project/production.
